Position Overview

In this role, you will be a hands-on technical powerhouse responsible for the architectural design, deployment, and daily maintenance of our global Azure ecosystem. We are looking for a Principal Engineer who thrives in the "doing"someone who is as comfortable writing complex Terraform scripts and debugging connectivity issues as they are designing long-term infrastructure roadmaps. You will take full ownership of our infrastructure and play a pivotal role in building and scaling our Data Pipelines from the ground up. This is not a "management-only" role; you will be in the thick of daily operations, ensuring our environment is automated, secure, and hyper-efficient. As a key "intrapreneur" at Zones Digital, you will directly build the connected and automated technology solutions that drive our global business.

What you’ll do as the Principal Azure Infrastructure Engineer

Employees employed in the role of Principal Azure Infrastructure Engineer shall be required to apply their independent mind and demonstrate advanced intellectual abilities in their decision-making. Key Responsibilities

  • Hands-on Infrastructure Engineering: Build, deploy, and manage production-grade Azure resources daily, ensuring 24/7 availability and peak performance.
  • Data Pipeline Development: Actively build and maintain scalable Data Pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Synapse, and Databricks. You will be responsible for the "plumbing" that powers our data-driven initiatives.
  • End-to-End Automation: Drive the transition to a fully automated environment by writing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Bicep) for all deployments—no manual clicks.
  • Direct Troubleshooting: Serve as the final escalation point for complex technical issues, diving deep into logs, network traces, and code to resolve bottlenecks.
  • Active Security Hardening: Directly implement and audit security controls, identity management (Entra ID), and encryption standards to meet ISO, NIST, and SOC compliance.
  • Real-time Cost Optimization: Perform weekly "hands-on" audits of Azure spend, actively resizing workloads and removing waste to ensure maximum ROI.
  • CI/CD Integration: Build and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps/GitHub Actions) to automate the delivery of both infrastructure and application updates.
  • Collaborative Building: Work side-by-side with developers and architects to ensure the infrastructure perfectly supports application requirements.

What you will bring to the team

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field (Master’s Degree preferred).
  • Experience: 7–10+ years of deep technical experience in IT infrastructure, with a proven track record of being the "go-to" hands-on expert for Azure environments.
  • Technical Breadth: Expert-level command of Azure Networking (vWAN, Firewalls, Application Gateways), AKS, and Storage solutions.
  • Pipeline Expertise: Demonstrable experience in the actual construction and optimization of Data Pipelines and ETL processes within Azure.
  • Automation Mastery: Advanced proficiency in Terraform and scripting languages (PowerShell, Bash, or Python) to automate repetitive tasks.
  • Certifications: Preferred Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Azure DevOps Engineer Expert—must show evidence of keeping skills "sharp" and current.
  • Grit and Ownership: A "roll-up-your-sleeves" mentality with the ability to manage complex projects while remaining deeply involved in the daily technical details.
